Murmur - Understand the news. Skip the doomscroll.

by•
Murmur is an audio-first news briefing built for people who want to stay informed without doomscrolling. It combines reporting from hundreds of sources, groups coverage of the same event, compares conflicting claims, and explains what changed, why it matters, and what it means — in short, calm briefings made for listening. Full transcripts and original sources are always one tap away.

Hey Product Hunt — I’m Murat, an indie developer based in Istanbul. I built Murmur because I was tired of the way I consumed news: opening several apps, seeing the same story repeated five different ways, and somehow losing an hour when I only wanted to understand what happened. So I tried building the opposite of an endless news feed. Murmur creates three short audio briefings a day — morning, midday and evening. Behind those few minutes is a pipeline that ingests reporting from hundreds of sources, groups articles covering the same event, compares claims across publishers, and writes each story specifically for listening. One of the biggest things I learned while building it is that summarization is actually the easy part. The difficult part is deciding what genuinely changed, what several sources agree on, where reporting conflicts, and what the system is justified in saying confidently. I built the product independently, including the editorial pipeline, backend, iOS app, audio experience and visual direction. My previous apps and games have reached more than 11 million downloads, but Murmur has been a very different challenge because it sits somewhere between software, an editorial system and a media product. I’d especially love feedback on two things: whether the briefings feel like the right length, and whether we’re giving enough context without making them feel heavy.

Quick update: Murmur is now live on the App Store 🎧 in US and Canada.

When I first posted here, I shared why I was building it. Now you can try it for yourself: three short audio news briefings a day, built to help you understand what happened and get on with your day.

If you give it a listen, I’d love to know: did your first briefing leave you feeling informed, or was there something you wanted more context on?

Thanks for checking out something I’ve put a lot of care into.
