Your startup will fail il you can't live without your product

I think a lot of people want to build startups just for the sake of building a startup.
They have an idea, build it, launch it… and then wonder why nobody wants to pay for it.
From what I've seen, the startups that have the best chance are usually solving a problem that people genuinely experience in their everyday lives.
A simple test:
If you don't find your own product useful, why would anyone else?
And even more importantly: why would they pay for it?
For me, the best products are the ones you build because you genuinely need them yourself.

The test breaks on the tools I need but don't enjoy. I can't work without our own model router and I'd never call it something I love, it's just that the alternative is five tabs and five bills. The things I'd actually miss are boring, like Granola, and I'd never have built one of those because the problem didn't irritate me enough to feel like an idea. Needing it yourself is necessary and it's a weak filter for what anyone will pay for.
