MoneyMap 1.5: watch your debt-free date move, and a payoff plan that survives a missed month

by•

Most budgeting apps assume you get paid on the first of the month. I don't, and neither do most people I hear from, so I built MoneyMap around actual paydays and launched it here in July.

Version 1.5 is out now. The big one first:

• A debt payoff plan you can feel. Drag one slider for how much extra you can put toward debt, and the debt-free date moves with it, along with the months and interest you just saved. Pick avalanche or snowball, leave out the debts someone else is paying, decide whether the mortgage counts.

• And it survives contact with real life. Paid extra outside the app, or skipped a month? Log it and the plan re-plans instead of quietly going stale. Commit the extra to your budget and it reseeds itself every paycheck rather than evaporating at the end of the month. Most payoff calculators give you a number once and are wrong by February.

• Apple Card, Apple Cash, and Savings. Connect straight from your iPhone. No separate bank login, no waiting on an aggregator to support it.

• Home-screen widgets. Safe to spend, your spending plan, upcoming bills, and goals, without opening the app. This is the one people asked for most.

• Vehicle values. Add a VIN and mileage to an auto loan and MoneyMap estimates what the car is worth, tracks your equity, and folds it into net worth. Your loan was already dragging that number down; now the asset counts too.

• Faster reviews. Swipe through suggested bills and uncategorized transactions to confirm or skip. The backlog that used to take ten minutes takes one.

Thanks to everyone who tried the first release or left feedback here. A lot of 1.5 came directly from it.

One thing I'm still working out: what should a plan do when a paycheck lands early or late? Right now it shifts with the deposit, but I'd like to hear how you'd expect that to behave.
