Why I built an AI assistant that refuses to send your data to the cloud
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I'm the founder behind MindBridge, launching here officially on September 22nd — but I wanted to start the conversation early.
Here's the problem that got me started: every "AI assistant" I tried assumed my data was fine living on someone else's server. Chat history, files, personal notes — all shipped off to the cloud by default, with privacy as an afterthought (if it existed at all).
So I built MindBridge the other way around: local-first from day one.
It runs on your own machine (macOS or Windows) using Ollama for the core AI — no account, no mandatory cloud calls, nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to enable an optional cloud feature. You can chat, work with your files, build a personal knowledge base, write, code, generate images, analyze visuals, and use voice — all offline-capable.
The hardest part honestly wasn't the AI — it was making local-first feel as smooth and capable as cloud AI, without cutting corners on privacy to get there.
We're still in beta and genuinely shaping the roadmap based on real feedback, so I'd love to hear from this community:
👉 When you think about AI tools handling your personal data or files, what would actually make you trust one enough to use it daily?
Happy to answer anything about the tech, the local-first approach, or what's coming next.
