Gmail's Print gives you interface chrome and a dialog to fight. Screenshots aren't searchable. Email-to-PDF services want you to forward private mail to their servers. MailPress puts a Save as PDF button inside Gmail. One click, no dialog: real selectable text, re-typeset for paper, named "2026-07-18 - Jane Doe - Invoice #123.pdf". Full-thread export, batch export as ZIP, filename templates, optional Drive upload. Rendering is 100% local - your email never touches our servers.

MailPress started with a small, stupid, daily annoyance: I needed a Gmail message as a PDF for a record, and Gmail's answer was Print -> a page with sidebars and toolbars baked in, a dialog to fight, and a file named "Untitled document.pdf". The alternatives were worse - screenshots aren't searchable, and every email-to-PDF web service asks you to forward private mail to their server.

So MailPress puts a Save as PDF button directly in the Gmail UI. One click and a few seconds later you have a real document:

• True text, not a screenshot - selectable, searchable, links still clickable
• Re-typeset for paper - no Gmail chrome, no clipped margins
• A filename that makes sense - "2026-07-18 - Jane Doe - Invoice #123.pdf", fully templated with {date}/{sender}/{subject}/{counter} and a live preview
• Whole threads as one chronological PDF, or batch-export a selection as a ZIP
• Save locally, to your own Google Drive (drive.file scope only), or both

The part I care most about: rendering is 100% local. PDF generation runs in an offscreen document inside your browser - your email body never reaches our servers, and nobody at MailPress can read your mail.

Two asks:
1. Export one real email and tell me if the PDF is genuinely filing-quality - that's the whole product, and it's where I want to be judged.

Finally something that just does the obvious. The one-click Save as PDF inside Gmail beats every clunky print dialog workaround I've been using, and the smart filename naming alone saves me from a Downloads folder nightmare.

The local rendering angle is what sold me, honestly. One thing that would make this a no-brainer for my workflow: an option to strip the quoted reply chain down to just the latest message before generating the PDF. Right now when I export a long thread I get pages of ">" lines from 2019, and I end up re-exporting and cleaning it up manually. A toggle like "collapse quoted text" with a preview would be a small addition but huge for daily use.
