Lawst is an open directory and search engine designed to make legal representation more accessible by directly connecting prospective clients with attorneys.

It started out as a mobile app, but I've failed to raise capital. Today is a project that needs refactoring. But I've decided to create a web version of it.

This is a Next.js + Prisma project, hosted with Vercel and uses PostgreSQL as its database. I am a Software Developer and decided to not vibe-code on this one.

The photo above shows the lawyer dashboard with a somewhat extensive form with photo upload using Filestack. Lawyers can create as many profiles as they wish (depending on the legal field and countries they work with). Unfortunately that's how it works. The system is still empty and has been live for 24 hours. If you search for "Sweden + Intellectual Property or Administrative Law", you'll find 3 dummy posts. I'm offering the 3 spots in the homepage for the first users, per country.

It's the weekend, but I find it hard to convince lawyers to register their practice at the site. At least in Sweden, most law firms have their own websites and everyone has social media. Employed lawyers, I don't think, will post without someone else's permission. I've cold-emailed perhaps 40 lawyers and law firms and no new accounts so far.

I hope with the help of Instagram promoted posts and can reach out to more people and have lawyers to engage.
