Lanes - Keeps your team's coding agents from overwriting each other

When several people on a team run coding agents in the same repo, the agents overwrite each other's work. Lanes is a free VS Code extension for Claude Code teams. It shows every teammate's agents and the files they're editing, live. When two agents need the same file, one waits a moment, picks up the other's change and carries on. No edit is refused and no work is lost. Working alone? It runs with zero setup.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Michele, and I built Lanes on my own over the past few months.

Coding agents made each of us faster. But when two people's agents work in the same repo, they start overwriting each other. One agent's edit lands on top of another's, or it "fixes" code a teammate's agent changed a minute ago. You only find out when something breaks.

How Lanes works:

- Short lease per edit. Each edit briefly locks the file. If a teammate's agent is holding it, yours waits a moment, re-reads their change and then goes ahead.

- Live view in VS Code. You see every teammate's agents and the files they're working on.

- Never in your way. If Lanes can't coordinate, the edit goes through anyway. It never blocks you and never loses work.

In my stress test, four agents edited the same repo for 32 minutes and lost 0 of 1,056 lines.

It works with Claude Code today. It's free during the beta, and it runs on your own machines, so your code is never sent to us. Working alone, there's nothing to set up. For a team, one person starts a server and the others join with one command.

Next on the roadmap: agents that coordinate directly with each other, not just take turns.

I'd love to hear where it breaks for your team. I'll be here all day answering every comment.
