We surveyed job seekers to understand the biggest challenges they face when applying for jobs.

Before we built JobHunter, we asked our alpha users one simple question: What's actually going wrong when you apply for jobs?

The answer wasn't what we expected. It's not that people can't find openings or it's not that they're unqualified.

It's that the silence after hitting "submit" is deafening.

Here's what the data told us:

• The response-rate problem is brutal. 7 out of 10 users who had been actively applying reported getting only 0–2 interview calls — despite applying to dozens of roles. That's a sub-10% response rate on manual applications.

• People feel it, and they said so in their own words

  1. One user, put it simply: "The biggest challenge is getting an interview call because the volume of applications gets done in hours." Every recruiter is drowning in submissions, and every candidate is drowning in silence.

  2. Another user, described the exact problem we're solving: "Reaching out to people and actually getting cold emails to convert to an interview — having a chance to get on an interview call is difficult."

• They're ready to hand over the wheel. 9 out of 12 respondents said they'd let an AI tool send applications on their behalf — before they'd even seen the product. That's not casual interest. That's people who are tired of doing this manually and want a better way, now.

  We asked when do they want to start using and almost everyone choose either "Right Now" or "Within a Week"
