Over 20 years in banking and healthcare. Couldn't write code 14 months ago. Launching 1 September.
Two decades in regulated industries — first banking, then healthcare — on the receiving end of compliance regimes. My job, repeatedly, was to make a regulation operational inside a business: read the text, work out what it actually means for us, produce the evidence, and live with the auditor's questions. That translation work is precisely what Veritome does. I have done it manually for twenty years in two of the most heavily regulated sectors in Europe, which means I am not learning the customer's problem — I have been the customer.
What I am not is a career software engineer. I could not write code fourteen months ago. I started learning with AI-assisted development tools in the summer of 2025, and after trying out different tools, leaarning from errors and another 3-4 serious projects in the pipeline, I've decided to start my own AI-native architect studio Relay Labs. Veritome is the result of my even boy-like fascination in working out logical solution for everyday pain : a production Next.js and Postgres application — 105 data models, 350+ API routes, roughly 1,000 automated tests, ten releases in the last month, built and hosted entirely in the EU. I give checkable numbers deliberately. The point is not that I learned to code; it is that the regulatory logic in this product — article-by-article classification, provider versus deployer duties, evidence chains, deadline derivation — never went through a game of telephone between a domain expert and an engineering team. It was written by the person who understands the regulation.
The honest gap is capacity, not capability, and it is the first thing I would spend investment on: a senior engineer and a regulatory specialist, so that the company is no longer one person. Then I could give some attention to those other 3-4 rough diamonds waiting on me...
Veritome is launching 01.09.26, and I will be delighted to see you on the day with comments and questions.
In the meantime, and as I am aware there are many of us here who actively use AI tools for different tasks around our products, if you have any questions about EU AI Act compliance or Veritome itself, happy to help!
Thank you, Tomislav
