Hi Product Hunt, I'm Vladimir. And the first version of my app was built around one number
For the last two years I have been building one small app about time. And I'm launching it here tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28, so, it felt right to say hello first :)
It started in September 2024 with a question that sounded almost silly. How much time do I actually waste every day? For about ten days I wrote my hours down in a paper notebook. I could see single evenings well enough, but I had no idea what they added up to.
So I spent a weekend building myself a tool. One button, three inputs, a list, and a small calculation at the top of the screen. It took the twelve or thirteen hours a week I spent on ordinary small stuff and carried them forward ten years. About 6,500 hours, close to nine months of my life.
And yeah, everything else grew around that number. The app is called Wastime now, a life calendar and time diary for iOS and Android, and underneath it still does the same simple arithmetic. You log time by topic, decide yourself what was meaningful and what was wasted, and see what your current pace adds up to over a year, ten years, a whole life. The personal tools work offline, need no account and show no ads.
Until then I'm mostly here to read, and I'm curious about one thing. Have you ever added up your own hours on something, and did the total change anything for you?
