Hi Product Hunt, I'm Mathis: trail runner and solo maker in London

by•

Hello everyone,

I'm Mathis. I'm French, I live in London, and most of my free time goes into trail and ultra running: long runs, races, and a lot of thinking about how to train for them.

Lately that has turned into building. I work on my own, making software for runners who plan their own training, and I'm learning everything outside the code as I go: design, writing, getting the first users.

I'm here to meet other makers and learn from people who've been through a launch. If you run, or build on your own, say hello. I'm happy to swap notes.

Welcome Mathis. Runners are one audience where I would think about the watch early. I just built a watch companion for my own app and the lesson was humbling: I do not own a watch, so everything was tested on simulators, and the simulator is very forgiving about the things that matter on a run, glances of two seconds, sweaty taps, no phone nearby. For training software I suspect the watch is where people will judge you, even if the planning happens on the phone or laptop. On the getting first users part, one thing I do is ask a few questions before sign up rather than after, a short quiz that is clearly about the person, so I learn who actually showed up. For you that might be the next race and its distance, which is also the most honest segmentation you could ask for. Good luck with the training and the build.
