Hi, I’m Mohamed — building an AI fitness companion from my own gym consistency problem

by

Hey Product Hunt,

I’m Mohamed.

I’ve been training since 2015, and I’m currently building Rex Fitness Companion, an early AI fitness companion for people who already know how to train but still struggle with consistency.

I’m still very early, so I’m not here to launch or promote heavily yet.

I’m mainly here to learn from other makers building AI, consumer apps, mobile apps, and products where retention is hard.

One thing I’m thinking about a lot is this:

How do you make a product feel useful enough for people to come back, especially when the problem is behavior and consistency?

For Rex, I’m trying to avoid building “just another chatbot” or “just another workout app.”

I want it to feel more like a companion that remembers the user’s fitness journey, goals, struggles, comebacks, and patterns.

Happy to connect with other makers working on AI, health, habits, or consumer products.

Hey, love the companion angle for tackling fitness consistency...super relatable problem!

On retention: spaced repetition has been key for me in habit-building products like learning apps. I built The Sponge (https://thesponge.app), an AI-powered flashcard app that turns webpages into study material with spaced repetition to make knowledge stick.

If you're up for it, launching on PH soon...would appreciate a follow (See "PRODUCT HUNT LAUNCH" Link in my profile).

@rianbrob Thanks Rian, appreciate it.

I agree, spaced repetition is interesting for habits too. For Rex, I’m thinking more about spaced check-ins around the moments people usually fall off, not just reminders.

The challenge is making it feel useful and personal, not annoying.

Good luck with your launch — I’ll check it out.
