Hey Product Hunt, 17 y/o solo dev here!

by

Hi all. I'm the maker behind OneRep, launching here shortly, and since this is a discussion post I thought I'd talk about me rather than the app.

I started programming in 2017. My mother taught me C, which is a strange first language to hand a kid, and I'm glad she did. For years after that it stayed a hobby: things I built for myself and never showed anyone. I'm in my final year of school now and drifting toward surgery, and OneRep is the first thing I've built that other people actually use (or so I hope haha).

I built it because I lift and I was running two apps that didn't know about each other. My lifting app had no idea what I'd eaten, my food app had no idea I'd trained, and I was doing the joining in my head. That's a boring reason to build something, but it's the honest one.

The whole thing is solo: the tracker, the offline sync across phone and laptop, the AI layer. The bit I've learned most from is the last one, mostly through getting it wrong. My first version had the assistant volunteering things and it was insufferable. Now it does nothing unless asked, because most sessions are someone logging three sets and leaving. Restraint turned out to be harder to build than capability.

The thing I'm least good at is everything after shipping. I have roughly five users and no idea how to get more, which is why I'm here.

Would be glad to hear from anyone who's shipped as a solo dev and figured out the distribution side, because right now the product is the easy part.
