Coding since 1983 — finally saying hi after years of lurking

hey PH 👋 been around here for years, mostly lurking and upvoting — figured it was finally time to actually say hi.

i’m John (Giovambattista) from Rome 🇮🇹. i’ve been writing code since 1983, starting on the Commodore Vic-20/64/128 and Amiga in assembly (Z-80, 6510, 680x0… yeah, that long ago 😅). these days i’m Lead Developer on the Cloud team at Namecheap, mostly living in React/TypeScript/Next.js, Go and SwiftUI.

outside the day job i build and maintain a bunch of open source:

  • octoscope — a terminal dashboard for GitHub (Go + BubbleTea)

  • FinderGit — a native macOS git-aware file browser (SwiftUI)

  • Netfox — a macOS network monitor for your LAN, no cloud/telemetry

  • WP Bones — a framework that brings Laravel-style dev to WordPress plugins

  • ~25 Mantine UI component extensions for React

funny thing after all these years: the tools that stick are still the boring ones that quietly work every day.

happy to finally be saying hi properly — would love to connect with other folks building dev tools or shipping solo 🙌
