Building the world's first marketing tool for solopreneurs and small business owners

by

Hi everyone,

I'm Mona a marketer turned builder from Germany.

Last summer, I conducted a survey among solopreneurs and small business owners. My goal was to understand their struggles when it comes to marketing.

The results absolutely shocked me.

80% of those surveyed didn’t know what their KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) were—or what to do with them. In other words, four out of five business owners are essentially flying blind when it comes to their marketing efforts.

So, I started doing some research to find a solution to recommend. And what I found was… nothing. There was no marketing tool specifically built for them—the non-marketers.

The tools out there were all built for marketers.

It’s no wonder solopreneurs and small business owners feel completely overwhelmed by these existing platforms. They are complex, expensive, and require significant time to master—time that small business owners just don’t have.

That’s when a thought arose in my head. A thought about bridging that gap. The thought of building a marketing tool specifically for solopreneurs and small business owners.

And that’s exactly how the idea of Xolora was born.

My mission is to make professional marketing accessible and understandable for everyone. Xolora isn’t just a software; it’s designed to be your trusted partner, stripping away the complexity and showing you exactly what works, so you can make informed decisions.

If you have questions about it, don't hesitate to ask. :)

The eighty percent stat matches what I keep hearing from small business owners about the operational side too, not just marketing. Most of them can point to a dashboard full of numbers, they just cannot always tell which one actually needs a decision today versus which one is just noise. Xolora sounds like it is solving that specifically for marketing data, which is a real gap. That same blindness on the operations side is part of why I built FounderFlow, after running a software company, a care home, and a cafe at once and drowning in exactly that kind of ambient dashboard noise.

Solopreneurs and small business owners are highly under-served when it comes to tools. Most tools out there are too big and complex for them. It's time that they get tailored software as well so their day to day gets easier.

Agreed, and it is not just that tools are too big. Most of what exists assumes the owner has time to become an expert in the tool itself. The founders I talk to do not want another dashboard to learn, they want someone or something to tell them what to look at today. Good luck with Xolora, curious to see how it turns out.

Thank you! And yes, small business owners don't have the time to spend multiple hours per day to decipher a dashboard. I believe in the value of Xolora, so I hope it will turn out great.

Hey Mona! This really hit home. 👋

That 80% stat is wild and honestly I believe it. As a solopreneur myself, I've opened Meta Ads Manager, stared at CTR, CPC, ROAS numbers and closed the tab because I had no idea what action to take next. The data was there, the clarity wasn't

A few questions I'd love to understand better:
1. Does Xolora work only with Meta ads, or are you planning to support Google Ads / organic analytics too? As someone who runs both, the Meta silo is a real limitation.

2. How does it actually explain the "why"? Like, if my ROAS drops, does it tell me "your audience is fatigued" or "your creative isn't converting" or is it more of a dashboard with friendlier labels?

3. What does the output look like for a non-marketer? Is it a weekly report, real-time alerts, a chat interface?

I'm building Clipency - a performance-based platform where content editors & page admins distribute branded content as short-form clips and earn per view
so I want to run meta ads to grab clients so tell me what use Xolora can be for me

Would love to connect as you build this out.

Hi Ayush! Sorry for my late reply, we had a holiday here in Germany yesterday so I spent quality time with a friend.

The Meta Ads Manager is definitely not for the faint of heart. And believe me even for marketers (I am one) all the KPIs are confusing.

To answer your questions:

  1. We'll launch beta with Meta Ads. But we are planning to add more platforms later on. For the beta/start we just don't want to overbuild. And if there is demand, we're also adding organic analytics.

  2. We are building a simple dashboard and a chat. Many newer tools out there only have a chat interface and I believe that this is not useful for a solopreneur who is busy and doesn't know marketing. So there will be a dashboard showing you the most important metrics (because not all of them are important) and the chat will assist you as well. The dahsboard and chat are both using simple English language and no marketing jargon.

  3. There will be reports and as mentioned above, a chat interface. Over time I'd also love to add a learning section so the user can learn more about marketing. But as I said, we start small and then according to demand we'll add more features.

I hope this helps you.

I added you on LinkedIn as I share more about Xolora, marketing and founder life over there.

What I'd suggest to you is to sign up for my waitlist. By that you get a weekly email update on Xolora. Then when we launch in July, you can try it out and actively help me shape it into the product that would be most useful for you.

Appreciate your support!

Hi, Mona. As a solo builder, I admin that I still have no idea on marketing efforts. I don't know how to sell or even impress my build product to the market. I have no customer. Can I get progress by using it? Thank you.

If you run ads, you definitely can get progress by using my tool. But you should have built a rough sales/marketing strategy before.

I don't know if you are doing any marketing at the moment, but that is the base. ChatGPT or free courses can definitely help you get startet.

Wow, Mona...those survey results are eye-opening! Love how you're bridging the gap for solopreneurs who aren't marketers. Will give Xolora a look.

If you're up for it, I'm launching The Sponge on PH soon...an AI-powered flashcard app that turns webpages into study material with spaced repetition. Would appreciate a follow (see "PRODUCT HUNT LAUNCH" link in my profile).

Thank you for your comment! So far Xolora isn't out there yet. I only have a lead magnet, which I linked here on PH. I will check out The Sponge/your profile.
