Another bill splitting app enters the chat 👋

by•

Hello! McKinley here. I'm a solo founder from the east coast, currently based in Seattle.

I'm passionate about helping people make real friendships in new cities, and one thing I kept noticing is how often the bill at the end of dinner still takes way too long to sort out, distracting from the actual conversation.

I tried a lot of what's out there and nothing quite worked for me, and new entrants miss something key (Apple's upcoming bill-splitting feature, for example, only works between iPhone users on Apple Cash).

So I built Tabster. Bill splitting that's fast and works for anyone, anywhere.

  • No manual entry. Snap a photo of the receipt, paste a link (Toast, etc.), or forward an email. Tabster turns it into an interactive digital receipt.

  • Real-time collaboration. Everyone taps and swipes their own items, Google Docs-style. No more "wait, who had the second margarita?"

  • Works everywhere. Web, iPhone, and Android. Built for mixed-device friend groups.

  • Use whatever payment app you want. Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Zelle, and more. Tabster handles the math; you settle via your preferred payment method.

  • Trip mode. For longer hangs: trips, roommates, friend groups. Everyone adds receipts as they go, claims their items, and when everyone's ready, Tabster calculates the differences owed to settle up.

  • Select & request. Friends can either select their own items and click pay, or you can select the items they owe you and request them.

  • Shared memory feed. Each tab and trip becomes a shared memory — photos, comments, reactions from everyone who was there. Your Tabster homepage is a feed of moments, not just receipts.

  • Monthly Tabster collage. Tabster compiles 6 memories per month into a collage for you to share to your socials (TikTok, Snapchat, & Instagram stories).

The small things that add up:

  • Automatic USD conversion for international trips

  • Share via QR code or link — friends don't need an account to join

  • Edit receipts (add tip, remove items, add other costs)

  • View the original receipt image or link right next to the interactive version

  • Tip and surcharges split proportionally to what each person ordered

Tabster is 100% free, and incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation, with a mission to make it as easy as possible for people to spend quality time together.

Would love your honest thoughts: any builders here working on something you truly believe needs to exist, in a space that seems noisy? If so, what makes your product unique?
