Hey PH community! My name is Daniel and I’m the founder of www.mintinteractiveNFT.com With interactiveNFT, you can add/pin your comment on top of a YouTube video at a specified timestamp and get it minted as an NFT to earn rewards! In terms of the rewards system, the price to mint a comment as an NFT increases linearly with every comment, and 70% of the minting price is equally split amongst previous commenters while 20% is reserved for the original video’s creator to be claimed from our platform. The platform will start by taking a 10% fee, but will decrease its take rate as the product scales!
I built interactiveNFT because I recently found myself spending a lot of time reading through comments on YouTube videos and growing frustrated that I couldn’t watch the video and read the comments at the same time. YouTube’s mobile app lets you watch the video and read the comments on a side-by-side basis, but I thought, “wouldn’t it be cool if you could see the comments overlayed on top of the video?” Then I remembered that in Korea there’s a huge category of videos called “comment videos” where users would re-upload existing videos while overlaying comments on top of the video. There are thousands of these videos and each of them would generate millions of views. This to me was a validation that I wasn't the only person who wanted to see the comments overlayed on top of the video and inspired me to think, "could you provide a 10x better experience for users if you let them pin their comments on top of a YouTube video at the timestamp of their choice?"
At the same time, I remembered a product called Autonomous Art that Moxie Marlinspike (founder of Signal) created. Autonomous Art is a collective art piece where anybody can draw on it and have their contribution minted as an NFT. The price to lock in their contribution as an NFT increases with every contribution and the minting price is equally split amongst previous contributors. The crazy thing about this product is that it got 634 contributions, locking in more than $1.5M into the collective art piece. Moxie had pioneered what I call a pay-to-interact-with-content model and its success is telling of what happens when you let the crypto community share the economic upside. This is when I had the Eureka moment -- what would it look like if you could combine Autonomous Art’s incentive model and combine this with a viral interaction model of letting users add comments on top of a YouTube video? Surely, there has to be a video that will lock in $1M in value (meaning that the original video creator will have $200K to be claimed)! I do think this point will come very quickly and content creators will be able to monetize at scales that they've never been able to do before via ads on Youtube.
I’m particularly excited about this idea because of how I like to think about NFTs as angel investing in culture. Right now, this mindset of angel investing in culture isn’t easily understood by the mainstream because there is no clear economic upside for buying the NFTs other than hoping that someone will buy them at a higher price. However, when you give users the economic upside of redistributing the minting prices, the comment NFTs become royalty-producing assets that not only benefit the commenters, but also the original creator of the video. The cool thing about this perspective is that everyone understands culture and people have a very good sense of predicting which types of content or influencers will go viral. As a user, all you have to ask yourself is “can I see 2-5 more users commenting on the video after me?” When you have an increased understanding of the asset class you’re investing in, you’re able to lower the barrier to entry, resulting in more people opening up their wallets to spend. Right now, the mainstream just needs an easily digestible utility of how NFTs can benefit them financially. I think InteractiveNFT could do just that!
If I’ve piqued your curiosity and made you think, “hm what comment should I leave on Mr. Beast’s video?” please join the waitlist on our website! I’ll be giving the top 1,000 users on the waitlist a free comment NFT on a YouTube video of their choice. I am gearing up for the full launch by making final touches to the product - hope to see everyone soon!
