Inkwell - Draft, format, publish—one calm workspace for authors

by
Inkwell is a local-first workspace for novels: chapters, notes, reordering, and a calm editor with light/dark themes. Draft through layout previews to exports in one workflow—fewer apps to juggle. Start free with no signup. Basic adds cloud backup + EPUB; Pro (early access) adds PDF/DOCX/Markdown/text plus deeper formatting for print and submissions. Paid tiers are one-time with lifetime updates—no subscription—and a 30-day refund. Indie-built by an author; I'll be in the comments.

Inkwell was made to be the clear choice of writing software for the everyman who wants to share their story. Four years ago in a jolt of passion I decided suddenly that I needed to write an action adventure novel. I never once thought about writing a book before until that fateful day. After checking out all of the different writing software on the market at the time - I picked the cheapest one that would get the job done. A week later I had a 52,000 word draft for my novel. I quickly learned that writing the book is actually the fun part. Once you write the book the real "Work" begins. I ended up having to pay people to do work that I could have done myself if I knew what I know now. Two years after my first book - I decided to invest in another writing software that covers formatting. This software did it's job, but the UI was janky, and they didn't have a dark mode (though it was promised on their roadmap) This year, I went to start on my third novel - and wouldn't you know it. Still no dark mode toggle. In a fit of rage I decided to figure out how to make my own damn writing app. That I can use and update personally. One that people can afford. One that is simple to use - yet has depth for seasoned writers to enjoy. One that ships with my beloved dark mode toggle. So yeah, that was about....a week and a half ago. So, my friends. I give thee - Inkwell. I will be writing all of my books in Inkwell from now on. I plan to be writing books for the rest of my life, so that means I'll probably be updating Inkwell for the rest of my life also. There are so many stories that have never seen the light of day due to an absurd barrier to entry. We need those stories now more than ever. Your stories are the future of our civilization as we know it. In the Era of AI - where soon all menial jobs will be redundant, I think people are going to have a lot of time on their hands. Perhaps sooner than we think. I see it as the beginning of the Golden Age. AI will never be able to tell the sort of stories that the Human Spirit can produce. AI doesn't have the sauce. WE DO - YOU DO. I want to hear your stories. Inkwell is free to download and free to use offline - no signup required. If you decide you like it - there's a plan that will fit your needs. If you've gotten this far, thanks for reading. I'll be around if anyone wants to chat. Thank you all and God Bless You.
