I've been using this for a while. This seems like something that should be baked into the browser. If there is an https version of the site why not use it instead of the http version

Many sites on the web offer some limited support for encryption over HTTPS, but make it difficult to use. For instance, they may default to unencrypted HTTP, or fill encrypted pages with links that go back to the unencrypted site. Just started using it on Opera but noticed that some sites like Slate (news site) get blocked or render weirdly; not sure why though.
On a related note, there's this other EFF Chrome extension called Privacy Badger that blocks spy ads and invisible trackers
