HomeVault is a local-first document manager for iPhone and iPad. Scan, import, organize, search, and protect important documents with Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. There is no HomeVault account or backend. Documents stay on device by default, with optional encrypted Apple iCloud backup only when the user enables it.

Hey Product Hunt, I built HomeVault after getting tired of document apps that needed an account, pushed everything into cloud storage, or made export feel like an afterthought. I wanted a simple setup: scan your documents, keep them organized on your iPhone or iPad, lock the app, and export when needed. No HomeVault account. No backend. No remote OCR. Documents stay local by default, with optional encrypted Apple iCloud backup if you explicitly enable it. I would love honest feedback, especially from people who care about where their data lives.

Just shipped the biggest HomeVault update yet.

HomeVault is still fully local-first: your documents never leave your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync.

What’s new:

• Widgets for Home Screen and Lock Screen

See how many documents are expiring soon. Widgets show only counts, never document names.

• Siri & Shortcuts

Ask things like “Find a document in HomeVault” or “What’s expiring in HomeVault?” Search, scan, and check expiry dates hands-free, while sensitive document content stays protected behind Face ID.

• Smarter scanning

HomeVault can now detect expiry dates while scanning passports, IDs, insurance papers, and similar documents, including formats like “12 MAR 2027”. Everything runs on device.

• More in the free tier

Full-text OCR search is now free for everyone, and the free tier now supports up to 25 documents.

One tradeoff we keep thinking about is speed vs structure. For personal documents, would you rather have faster capture with minimal tagging, or a bit more structure up front so retrieval is easier later? Curious how people actually balance that.
