Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built Glean because I kept hitting the same wall: text on my screen I couldn't select. A line of dialogue in a game. A German error dialog. A scanned PDF. A word burned into a video frame. Every time the workflow was identical - screenshot, alt-tab, upload to a translate site, squint, retype it by hand. Glean collapses that into one gesture. Press Win+Shift+G (configurable), drag a box, read the translation right where you drew it. It's on your clipboard too. Two things I cared about more than features: The OCR runs on your machine. Glean uses the Windows OCR engine, so the screenshot never leaves your PC - only the extracted text goes out to be translated. No image ever touches a server, and you don't need an account or an API key to use it. Looking a word up shouldn't be the end of it. If you do sign in, every translation is saved to your history. Star the ones worth keeping and they turn into spaced-repetition quizzes, fill-in-the-blank drills and crosswords on getglean.app. It's the part I use most - the translator is slowly making itself unnecessary. Also in the box: click a single word for definitions, alternatives and part of speech; 50+ OCR languages including CJK and RTL; works over fullscreen games; pinnable popup; custom hotkey; dark mode; app UI in English, Polish and German. The honest bits: Windows only (10 build 2004+ / 11) - no macOS or Linux yet. It's beta, 0.1.x. And it's genuinely free right now - every feature, no tiers, no limits, no card.
