I wanted to play local video files on my TV without a clunky GUI app, and the casting tools I tried kept falling down on subtitles, especially bitmap formats like PGS and VobSub that most can't burn in. So I built movcaster. It streams local video to a DLNA TV (tested on LG webOS) straight from the terminal, with soft subtitles when the TV can render them and burned-in when it can't. It transcodes on the fly, so playback starts in seconds. Go, single binary, on Homebrew. Would love feedback, especially from anyone with non-LG DLNA TVs, since that's what I haven't been able to test much.
