YouTube is basically my TV at this point. I watch it for hours every day, but for every video I actually finish, I add three more to my bookmarks or Watch Later that I never get back to. Eventually I realized my Watch Later list was only getting longer.
So I got the idea to build Gistilo, for myself at first. I didn't even realize other YouTube summarizers existed until I looked around. When I tried them, most gave me either a wall of text or a pile of generic bullet points. I couldn't tell what the video was actually about.
The fact-checking part came from a specific annoyance. Podcasts and interviews throw out health, political, and financial claims all the time, and I'd sit there wondering if any of it was true. So I built a feature that pulls the key claims from a video, checks them against reliable sources, and gives a verdict on each one.
