What makes numerous successful products fail immediately after the launch week?

by•

I've seen around a dozen launches so far, and it keeps happening every time. The product ends up being one of the top five, gets some hundreds of upvotes, and then falls silent by Thursday.

The key factor here, I think, is that the surviving ones had a loyal base of daily users even before the launch date. The others that disappeared had an audience coming to attend the show, but not the product itself.

What do you guys usually do after the launch week? Do you send out the changelog, email all those commenting, or simply continue working on your product? For those following launches, why would you sign up instead of only upvoting?

When we launched hrefStack in July, the comment inbox held only the maker's pinned comment for the first 21 hours. A competing AI SEO launch the same day had 12. We had no base of users before the date, and launch day just made that visible.

Of the dozen you watched, did the survivors already have people commenting on launch morning, or did that only show up later?
