The thing I learned more from than any book
I learned more from a failed launch than I have from every book I have read on the subject.
The books made sense. The principles were clean and the examples were instructive. And none of it stuck until I had felt the thing go wrong in my own hands.
I think there is no shortcut here. The knowledge that actually sticks is the knowledge that hurt a little when it arrived.
Everything else is just information I can recite without understanding.
The problem is that I keep reading books as a way of avoiding the launches that would teach me more. Reading feels productive. Launching feels like risk. So I read, and I feel like I am learning, and I am.
Just slower than I would if I had shipped and been wrong.
What is something you learned from doing that no book could have taught you? And do you read more when you are avoiding something?
