The thing I do before every launch that nobody knows about

by•

Before I launch anything, I open it as a stranger.

New browser, no history, no account, no context. I pretend I found this thing in a feed and I have about four seconds of patience. I type the URL cold and see what happens.

It is always worse than I expected. Always. The first screen assumes something. The signup asks for something I have not earned. The copy explains the thing to someone who already knows it. And I only see it because I have removed the thing that blinds me, which is everything I know about it.

Then I launch, and I get an email from someone stuck on the exact step I just fixed.

Do you look at your own work as a stranger before you ship it? And what has that look ever caught?
