Should businesses customize an ERP or adapt to an off-the-shelf solution?
by•
We've seen many companies spend months trying to fit their workflows into generic ERP software, only to end up creating manual workarounds.
Do you think it's better to:
• Customize software around the business workflow?
• Or change business processes to fit a standard ERP?Curious how founders and operators here think about this tradeoff.

It depends on their operations and staff willingness to adapt to change.
If you are a startup then it would be easy to adopt an off-shelf solution, however then it comes down to cost and complexity, do you really want to have an ERP system for a startup? Another solution is a smaller integrated platform or several apps to assist the operations.
For established businesses the human factor seems to be the biggest issue to manage rather than the system and an existing off shelf solution might fight with the existing operations too much resulting in rejection by staff, so in that case a customized/bespoke solution might be a better option.
