How do you catch the thing you wrote once and never opened again?
I was reading my own refund policy this week and the sections run 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. There is no 6. I wrote that page, shipped it, and never opened it again until this week.
Once I started looking I found more of the same. One of my pages isn't linked from the nav or the footer, so the only way to reach it is to already know the URL. Another spot lists four export formats where two other spots list six. My landing page says how long something takes in three different places and gives three different answers.
None of it is a bug exactly. Nothing breaks. That's the problem — there's no error and nobody complains, so the pages just sit there being slightly wrong at each other.
The obvious answer is a monthly read-through of everything I've published. I keep not doing it, and I think the reason is that it produces no ticket and nothing to point at, so it loses to whatever else is open that day.
What I can't tell is whether any of it costs me anything. Someone who spots the missing section number probably trusts the rest of the page a bit less. Or nobody reads it at all and I've invented a problem for myself. I have no way to measure the difference.
How do you handle this on your own stuff — is there a point where you stop re-reading the boring pages?
