How do technical founders find the right partner for distribution and growth?

by

I’ve been thinking about a problem that I’m sure many technical founders and Makers here can relate to.

I’m a Senior Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience, and I’ve built 300+ Android, iOS, and web applications across areas like education, healthcare, productivity, AI tools, and business software.

Over time, I’ve realized that building the product is often easier than getting it in front of the right customers.

As a technical person, I’m comfortable with product development, architecture, UI/UX, backend systems, AI integrations, deployment, and turning ideas into working products.

Where I want to improve is distribution, marketing, customer acquisition, and go-to-market strategy.

So I’m curious:

For technical founders who have faced the same problem, how did you find the right business/marketing partner?

Did you:

  • Find a co-founder with complementary skills?

  • Work with an agency or growth specialist?

  • Partner with someone on a revenue-share basis?

  • Build an audience first and then launch products?

  • Find distribution through existing businesses or partnerships?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have actually taken products from building → launching → acquiring customers → generating revenue.

I'd love to hear what worked, what didn't, and what you would do differently today.

Maybe this discussion can also help other developers who are strong at building products but struggle with the business side.
