How are you handling pricing pages for tools with a "free forever" tier?

by•

I’m in the final stages of building a B2B SaaS tool, and I’ve hit a wall with the pricing page.

I want to offer a generous free tier to drive adoption, but I’m terrified of two things:

  1. Attracting users who will never convert to paid.

  2. Losing out on revenue from users who would have gladly paid from day one.

I’ve been looking at how other startups handle this, and I see everything from "reverse trials" (where you get all Pro features for 14 days, then get downgraded) to strict usage caps.

For those of you who have launched or are currently building: What has been your most successful strategy for structuring a free tier without cannibalizing your paid plans?

Specifically, I’m curious about:

  • Do you limit by seats (users), usage (API calls, projects), or features?

  • Have you found that "reverse trials" actually convert better than traditional freemium?

I’d love to hear what’s actually working for you right now, rather than just the generic advice you find on blog posts.
