Has anyone actually seen "AI search visibility" move the needle, or is it still mostly theory?
Every SEO/marketing tool I look at lately has bolted on some version of "AI visibility tracking"
How often your brand gets mentioned in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, etc. The pitch is basically: rankings are dying, AI mentions are the new currency.
But I keep noticing a gap between the marketing copy and actual proof. Most case studies talk about "improved visibility scores," not real outcomes like traffic, leads, or revenue tied back to an AI mention.
So I'm genuinely curious what this community has actually seen, not just what the vendors claim:
Has an AI Overview or ChatGPT mention ever driven traceable traffic or a lead for you or your clients?
Are you (or your team) actively optimizing content for AI citability right now, or still watching and waiting?
If you've tried an AI visibility tool, did the insights actually change what you did, or did it just become another dashboard nobody opens after week one?
Bonus question: is there a metric you wish these tools tracked but none of them do yet?
I'll go first, I haven't found a tool yet that convincingly ties AI mentions to a business outcome, only to visibility. Would genuinely love to be proven wrong here.

I don't think you need a dedicated tool for this. When an AI answer actually sends someone, that click shows up in your analytics like any other referrer, and then you can watch whether it converts. What these dashboards count is a mention, which is a proxy for a click that never has to happen.
@maxwell_wx That's fair, a click is the real signal, a mention is just a proxy for one that might never happen. But analytics can't show you the query where a competitor got cited and you didn't. Have you seen visibility scores actually correlate with referral traffic, or do they move independently?
