Friend upvotes, ads pitches, no product feedback. Is organic discovery dead?

by

I launched a product here recently (a real-time isometric social game). I came for what I thought this community was for: people looking at the thing and saying what’s working and what isn’t.

What I actually got: almost no comments on the product, upvotes mostly from people I already know, and a fast stream of “pay for ads so others can see it.”

I’m not posting this to relitigate my ranking. I’m trying to understand the signal.

If the main path to being seen is paid, how useful is that as feedback that the product is any good? Ads can buy clicks. They don’t tell you if something is confusing, boring, or actually worth shipping.

For makers who launched here in the last year:

  1. Did you get organic comments or playtests, or did anything real only start after you paid?

  2. If you skipped ads, what actually moved the needle — hunter, ship list, Twitter, something else?

  3. How do you tell “the product isn’t ready” apart from “the launch just didn’t surface it”?

I still care more about making a good product than about a leaderboard. If this is a common experience, I’d rather hear that straight than keep assuming a quiet launch means the work is the problem.
