Anyone else feel like they're just collecting tools instead of using them?

I counted recently and realized I have a ridiculous number of apps, bookmark folders, and extensions I have opened maybe once. There is this weird little rush in finding a neat product, almost like collecting it is the actual activity, regardless of whether it ever fits into my real work.
Meanwhile, my daily setup relies on maybe five core tools. Half the stuff I got super excited about on launch day is just sitting there gathering digital dust.
I doubt I am the only one doing this, but I am curious how you deal with it. Do you do periodic purges to clear out the bloat, or do you just let things pile up on the off chance you need them later? Is the search simply more fun than the actual utility?
