AI prototyping workflows for designers

I’m a UI/UX designer and recently started exploring how AI can help bridge the gap between a Figma design and a more functional prototype.

Traditionally, I’d create the UI in Figma and then build interactions separately. With the newer AI tools, I’m curious how designers are changing this workflow.

For those who work with AI-assisted prototyping:

  • How do you go from Figma designs to functional prototypes?

  • Which parts of the process does AI handle well?

  • Where do you still prefer traditional Figma prototyping?

  • Have you found any tools that preserve the original design particularly well?

I’d love to hear about your actual workflows and experiences rather than just tool names. What has worked (or not worked) for you?

For me the first version is rarely the hard part. It's all the little states and interactions afterward.

I keep Figma as the visual contract and move into code as soon as I need real behavior. I give the coding agent one screen, the component constraints, and the states it must cover. AI gets the happy path fast; I still review loading, empty, error, keyboard, and resize states manually. The failure mode is asking it to “recreate the design” and reviewing only at the end. Side-by-side checks after each screen preserve the original much better.
