A small piece of feedback completely changed how I think about AI customer support
Hey makers! 👋
I'm Ismail Khan,
I've been working on an AI customer support workflow, and someone recently made a point I hadn't thought enough about.
When an AI chatbot can't solve a customer's problem, it usually offers to connect them with a human.
Sounds great, right?
But what happens when the human joins and asks, "How can I help you?"
The customer has already spent 10 minutes explaining everything to the AI. Now they have to start over.
It made me realize that a good human handoff isn't just about transferring the conversation. It's about transferring the context.
The human should already know what the customer asked, what the AI tried, and where things got stuck.
I'm curious how other makers approach this.
When handing a conversation from AI to a human, would you prefer the agent to receive the full chat history, an AI-generated summary, or both?
Would love to hear what's worked in products you've built or used.

Both with links from the summary to the original messages so the human can check anything the AI got wrong
Keep confirmed facts separate from the bot's guesses so a bad summary does not send the next agent down the same path
I'd go one step before the chat even. In my app the support ticket saves a snapshot of the account at the moment it's sent: plan, credits, recent songs, app version, plus any other tickets from the same person. Half the time that answers the question before I read the message, because "my song didn't arrive" plus a failed generation in the snapshot is already the whole story. Then AI drafts the reply from those facts in the user's language, and a human edits and sends it. The words the customer typed are often the least reliable part of the context, the state of their account is the part that can't be summarized wrong.
