Title: [Q&A] WhatsApp calls not connecting in Qatar? What actually helps

by
Hi everyone,

I've helped a lot of friends in Doha with this, so I wanted to share what I've learned.

Quick context: Qatar filters real-time VoIP calls (WhatsApp voice/video, FaceTime, Skype) on consumer networks. This comes back to Telecommunication Law 34 of 2006 — it's about unlicensed commercial provision, not your personal calls. So messaging always works; it's the live calls that get dropped.

What people do:
- Use licensed international calling packs from Ooredoo or Vodafone
- Use a VPN to help restore the call (this has worked for many, but no guarantee)

I actually built a free, no-sign-up Android VPN called FortVPN while looking into this. It's just an option if you want to test whether a VPN helps your own connection.

Detailed guide (what's filtered, the law, and VPN caveats):

Would love to hear what's worked (or not) for people in Doha.
