I built a portfolio tracker because my spreadsheet lied to me. Launching Sept 8
Hi, I'm Jhon, an indie hacker in Colombia.
For years my money lived in a spreadsheet: two brokers, a crypto exchange, an apartment, savings in three currencies. Every month I rebuilt the same tabs, and I still could not answer the only question that mattered: am I actually making money?
So I built FortuneOK for myself first. It is a portfolio tracker for money that lives in more than one currency. Stocks, ETFs, crypto, cash and property from markets worldwide, in one honest number.
The word "honest" is doing real work there, because building it I found two ways my own numbers had been lying to me:
1. Every trade was being converted at today's exchange rate, not the rate on the day it happened. A GBP position bought in 2016 read about 10% higher than it should have. The giveaway was that every date in 2016 showed the identical converted value. Now each trade is converted at the rate of its own day.
2. Annual return was a total return spread evenly over the years since the first buy. That credits money you added last month with the full holding period. A position I had built with ten years of monthly buys at a true 10% a year was showing 5.3%. It now uses a money-weighted return (XIRR), the same thing your fund manager would use, and the error was in the same direction for anyone who invests a bit at a time.
What it does today:
- Read-only broker sync with 28 brokerages (DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers, Wealthsimple, Coinbase, and more), or import a CSV or Excel export from any other
- 57 currencies, with your whole portfolio shown in the one you pick
- Performance against the S&P 500, allocation by country, sector and currency
- Goals: emergency fund, target return, allocation targets, financial independence date
Launching here on Product Hunt on Tuesday, Sept 8. There is a 14-day free trial with no card, and a launch discount for the day.
The demo is the real dashboard on a ten-year, four-currency portfolio, no signup needed: https://fortuneok.com/demo
I would genuinely like to hear what a multi-currency investor is missing from this. What do you track today, and what does your current tool be pinged on launch day, follow the product page.
