Folio - Windows Explorer for Mac, with undo for everything
by•
Folio is a native Mac file manager: address bar, tabs, drives, status bar, details pane and plain-English search. Its Assistant is an on-device AI chat with access to your files. Ask it to find, read or organise anything. You approve every change.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Ayush, and I built Folio.
I've used Windows File Explorer a lot, and on the Mac I kept missing the information it shows at a glance: the address bar, tabs, drives with free space, a details pane, a status bar, and search you can actually steer. So I built a Mac file manager that shows the same information while still looking and feeling like a real Mac app. It's written in Swift and SwiftUI, and it's fast, even in folders with huge numbers of files.
What you get:
• Address bar with clickable breadcrumbs, and tabs
• Sidebar with favorites and drives, including free space
• Details pane, Quick Look, and a status bar
• Search with filter chips. Type "PDFs bigger than 1 MB" and Folio turns it into filters
• Cut, copy, paste, drag and drop, rename, and full undo
The Assistant (macOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence):
It's a chat that runs entirely on Apple's on-device model. It can look at the folder you have open and read the files you ask about, so you can just talk to your files:
• "What's taking up space in Downloads?"
• "Find the duplicates in this folder."
• "What's in this PDF?"
• "Sort these screenshots into folders by month."
There are also one-click shortcuts for common jobs: large, recent, old and empty files, screenshots, group by type or date, organize, find duplicates, storage, merge PDFs and extract text.
Two promises I care about:
1. Your files stay on your Mac. No cloud, no account, no analytics. The only network calls are the license Activate and Deactivate buttons, which you click yourself.
2. Nothing changes until you click Approve. Delete means Trash, nothing is overwritten without asking, and every operation can be undone.
Pricing: one-time purchase, no subscription. As a launch offer, the first 50 customers get Folio for $9.99 (regular price $19.99).
Folio requires macOS 14 or later. The Assistant needs macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on.
I'd love your feedback, especially on what you'd ask an AI that can see your files. I'll be here all day answering questions!
