Flocking Simulator (Boids) - Interactive boids simulation to explore flocking.

byโ€ข
This is a real-time interactive simulation based on the classic boids flocking algorithm, originally introduced by Craig Reynolds. Watch hundreds of agents come to life using just three simple rules: Alignment (match direction) Cohesion (stay together) Separation (avoid crowding) What makes it fun? You can actually play with the system. ๐Ÿ”น Add attractors and repellers ๐Ÿ”น Observe emergent patterns in real time ๐Ÿ”น See chaos turn into organized motion

Iโ€™ve been fascinated with the boids algorithm for over 20 years โ€” ever since I first came across the work of Craig Reynolds. This weekend, I finally took some time to rebuild it from scratch as a fully interactive simulation. What started as a simple experiment turned into something surprisingly engaging โ€” watching these tiny agents self-organize using just a few rules never gets old. I added some interactivity so you can: Influence the flock with your mouse Create attractors and repellers Experiment with different swarm behaviors Itโ€™s simple, but thereโ€™s something oddly calming (and addictive) about it. Would love your feedback โ€” especially if youโ€™ve ever used flocking/swarm behavior in games or simulations ๐Ÿ™Œ Also thinking about turning this into a game mechanic (soccer, predator-prey, puzzles) โ€” curious if that direction sounds interesting. Thanks for checking it out! ๐Ÿš€
