Does word count help you… or pressure you?

I intentionally removed word count from featureless because I noticed it changed how I wrote - I d optimise for numbers instead of ideas.

For you, does word count feel motivating, neutral, or stressful?

I m genuinely curious how different writers experience it.

Why I chose to remove features instead of adding them?

Most writing tools compete by adding more - stats, formatting, goals, streaks, word counts, background colors, AI helpers, and so much more.

I went the opposite direction and built featureless as a single writing surface with almost nothing around it.

featureless - A distraction-free writing space with just one page.

Featureless is intentionally minimal - not “minimal with options,” but genuinely restrained. Most writing tools eventually grow sideways: folders, feeds, formatting panels, metrics, AI prompts, and collaboration layers. Featureless does the opposite. You get one writing surface, one document, and nothing competing for your attention. There’s no organizing, no publishing, no formatting. You write. That’s it.
