Help shape Facet 96 — an open-source gemstone design tool

Hi Product Hunt! I’m Suva, the maker of Facet 96 — the project is called OpenGemCutting on GitHub.

The idea is simple: turn a gemstone concept into a design you can actually inspect and edit, not just a beautiful image.

Facet 96 is an open-source gemstone faceting workbench that runs in your browser. You can adjust cutting angles and symmetry, inspect the geometry in 3D and multiple views, compare designs with optical previews, and follow the cutting sequence with a step-by-step assistant.

You can also save an editable JSON design and export a PDF cutting report.

There are two ways to use it:

• Open the standalone browser editor and work manually — no account or API key needed.

• Set up the optional Codex-based workflow for conversational design.

The project’s code is MIT-licensed, and development is ongoing. Optical simulation is a tool for exploring and comparing designs, not a guarantee of real-world cutting results.

Our Product Hunt launch is scheduled for September 18, but you can already try the project:

You don’t need to be a gemstone expert to join in. A confusing label, an unclear control, or a screenshot of where you got stuck would all be useful.
