The problem
Getting a senior engineer’s attention is disproportionately hard, and it is hard in the same way for people whose problems look nothing alike.
A founder needs someone who has taken an idea to a launched product. An engineer with a production incident needs a second opinion in the next hour, not next sprint. A team running an ERP or CRM implementation needs someone who has delivered on that exact platform, because large enterprise products are heavily customised and generic advice is worthless. Someone trying to land a first software role needs a working engineer to tell them what actually gets hired. And someone moving into AI needs a path through a field that reinvents itself every few months.
Every available route is badly sized for all of these. Hiring is a months-long commitment. Consultancies are priced for projects rather than questions. Free community channels are a lottery in both quality and timing. And AI assistants, which answer general questions well, cannot see your codebase, your system landscape or your career.
On the other side, experienced practitioners have knowledge they could sell but no practical way to sell it in hour-sized pieces. Setting that up alone means solving scheduling, payments, tax invoicing and payouts before earning anything.
Exprty makes that transaction small enough to be worth doing. Someone describes what they are stuck on, finds an expert, and books a single paid session. An expert publishes their services, availability and rate, and gets paid without running their own billing operation.
What we built
Exprty is a two-sided marketplace serving five distinct audiences from one booking, payment and scheduling engine. In practice that means two products that have to stay in balance, plus the machinery that settles money between them.
Five tracks, one engine
Startups and founders — technical discovery, hands-on MVP development, ongoing MVP mentoring
Software professionals — live debugging, code review, system design and architecture review
Technology and enterprise platforms — ERP functional and development work, CRM platforms, enterprise integration, and the long tail of HR, ITSM, low-code, RPA, mainframe, banking and BI systems
Aspiring software engineers — career mentorship, DSA and system design interview prep, resume review
Moving into AI — transition roadmaps, ML and GenAI fundamentals, LLM and agent engineering, AI/ML interview prep
Each track carries its own service catalogue, and an expert opts into the services they can actually deliver rather than being listed against all of them.
For experts
Profile, skills, hourly rate and bio, with admin approval before going live
A per-service catalogue, priced individually
Recurring weekly availability, managed in their own timezone
Bookings, session history and earnings in one dashboard
Bank and PAN onboarding to a payment linked account, which gates bookability
Automatic invoices, generated as PDFs
Post-session recaps and action items, generated for them
For learners
Conversational discovery that turns a vague problem into a shortlist
Semantic search that ranks experts by meaning rather than keyword overlap
A short rationale on each result explaining why that expert fits
Expert cards carrying rating, experience, rate range and typical response time
Request a slot, have the expert accept, then pay securely to confirm
A structured session brief built from free text, sent to the expert ahead of the call
Live video with screen sharing, plus in-app messaging and voice calls
Session history, invoices and feedback
Running the platform
A first-session guarantee: if a first session is not useful, it is refunded in full within 24 hours, once per account
Admin tooling for approvals, bans, refunds and account deletion
Transactional email, SMS one-time passcodes and push-style notifications
Scheduled jobs for session reminders, payment reminders, post-session nudges, expiring unpaid bookings and sweeping orphaned payments
Error monitoring and structured retry around every database call
