Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built Excuseify because every "excuse generator" online just spits out the same tired list. This one actually writes for your situation, in three tones. Same request — "I need to skip Friday's meeting": Believable: "Hi [Manager], I've got a clash on Friday afternoon — could I catch the notes and follow up on anything with my name on it?" Dramatic: "Friday afternoon is when my soul traditionally leaves my body. Requesting to be excused before it does so publicly." Absurd: "I'm required at a hearing to determine custody of my neighbor's parrot on Friday. I am, inexplicably, the responsible adult." It's free, no sign-up, and nothing's stored. There are four more free tools around it — an email writer, a reply writer, a grammar & tone fixer, and a sick-leave email generator. The stance throughout is honest communication, not faking emergencies. Would love your feedback on Absurd mode especially 🙏

A few things people usually ask, so I'll get ahead of them:

  • Is it actually free?
Yes. All five tools, no account, no email, no paywall.

  • Do you store what I generate?
No. Nothing you generate is stored.

  • Isn't this just encouraging people to lie?
Fair question, and the one I thought about most. Believable is the default tone and it's built for real situations you simply don't have the words for. Dramatic and Absurd are for the group chat, not your boss. The whole thing is framed around saying the true thing well, not inventing emergencies.

  • What's next?
A late reply writer, a meeting cancellation writer, and cover letter / resignation letter tools are in progress.

Finally, something to save me from another "my dog ate my homework" text. The Dramatic mode is weirdly on point for venting about a Zoom call that ran over.

Ha, "venting about a Zoom call that ran over" might be the single most on-brand use of Dramatic mode I've heard today.

It was honestly the hardest tone to tune. Push it too far and it reads as sarcasm; not far enough and it's just Believable with extra adjectives.
The rule I landed on: Dramatic is for the group chat, Believable is for the person who actually approves your day off. Sounds like you found that line straight away.

If you try Absurd, I'd genuinely love to know what it gave you. It's the one that still surprises me.
