EmailVerify - Let only verified students or employees into your Discord

by•
EmailVerify lets only people who own an email at a domain you choose into your Discord: @*.edu, your company, or an exact list of addresses. Members click a button, enter their email, type back a 6-digit code, and get the right role, with students and staff split automatically. Addresses are stored only as hashes. Free for 25 verifications a month, open source (AGPL-3.0), self-hostable. 2,500+ servers and 240,000+ members verified since 2021.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Lars, the developer behind EmailVerify. Discord has plenty of captcha bots that prove someone is human. None of them tell you whether that person actually studies at your university or works at your company. EmailVerify answers that second question: a member proves they can receive mail at a domain you trust, and only then gets in. How it works: • Run /setup: it creates the role, asks for your allowed domains (@*.edu, .com, …) and posts a verify button • A member clicks it, types their email, gets a 6-digit code and enters it in Discord • The bot assigns the role, and different domains can map to different roles (students → Student, staff → Staff) A few things I cared about: 🔒 Email addresses are stored only as hashes, never in plaintext 🇪🇺 Hosted in the EU, GDPR-friendly 🌍 Available in 10 languages 🧑‍💻 Open source (AGPL-3.0) with a Docker image if you'd rather self-host It started as a side project in 2021 and now runs in 2,500+ servers, including student, alumni and employee communities at Harvard, Stanford, Google and Microsoft. More than 240,000 members have verified so far. It's free for 25 verifications per server per month, which covers about 95% of servers. Busier servers can buy credit packs or a subscription right inside Discord. I'd love your feedback, and I'm curious: what would you gate with it? A course, a company server, an alumni group, a hackathon?
