drip - See how much water your AI coding agent uses

by•
drip is a free, open-source CLI that estimates the water your AI coding agents use. It reads Claude Code and Codex CLI logs locally, counts tokens exactly and shows water per session and per day: a live meter in the Claude Code status line, a split-pane meter beside Codex or any agent, and a breakdown page with per-model numbers. Coefficients come from peer-reviewed research, every source is linked, and it always shows a low/mid/high range. Local-only, MIT, no dependencies.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Beau. I use Claude Code and Codex basically all day, and one night I wondered how much water all those tokens cost. No AI provider publishes energy or water per token, so I pulled together the published research (Li et al.'s "Making AI Less Thirsty", LBNL's 2024 US data center report, ML.ENERGY measurements) and turned it into a meter. drip: • puts a 💧 water meter in your Claude Code status line (this session + today) • runs a live meter beside Codex CLI or any agent: drip run codex • opens a breakdown page by model and token type, with the full methodology and every source linked It's 100% local (it only reads your agent's log files), has no dependencies and is MIT-licensed. My own number: 47.8 L in September, about 8 toilet flushes. Token counts are exact; the water is an estimate, so drip always shows a low–high range. I'd love feedback on the methodology. If you know better energy-per-token data, tell me and I'll update the coefficients.
