DeskStag - Name your Mac desktops, right inside Mission Control
by•
macOS has labelled your desktops "Desktop 1, 2, 3" since 2011 and will not let you rename them. DeskStag puts your own names and colours directly on the Mission Control thumbnails, not just in the menu bar, on a stock Mac with SIP intact and notarised by Apple. One-time purchase, 14-day free trial, no subscription, no account. Apple Silicon, macOS 13+.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
I run a desktop per context: client work, email, a trading screen, personal. I was tired of counting "1, 2, 3, 4" in Mission Control to find the right one. macOS has never let you name them, and people have been asking since 2011.
So DeskStag puts the name on the thumbnail, inside Mission Control, plus a colour, so you spot the right desktop at a glance. The part people assume is impossible: it does this on a stock Mac, with SIP on. The one earlier tool that drew names into Mission Control needed SIP disabled and Dock injection, and by its own README it doesn't work on Apple Silicon Macs at all.
How it works, briefly: macOS exposes each Mission Control thumbnail through the Accessibility API, and DeskStag floats its own label on top. It reads the thumbnails through that API but never modifies or injects into the Dock, and disables nothing. One permission, Accessibility, asked by macOS's own prompt on first run. Your desktop names never leave your Mac.
It's for Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 13 or later, notarised by Apple, £19.99 / $23.99 one-time with a 14-day trial, no subscription. Launch-week code PRODUCTHUNT5 takes 25% off (about £5) at checkout until 11 November.
I'd love your feedback, especially on multi-display setups and any edge cases you hit. I'm here all day.
