DeepCell - Your Deadline Survival Kit - and the story of .deepcell
I spent years in corporate jobs buried in spreadsheets, slide decks, and endless narrative reports. Doing deep, thoughtful analysis was supposed to be the core of the job. In reality, most of our energy was swallowed up by a maddening chore: keeping numbers consistent across formats.
A supplier slips a month, a forecast assumption moves, or a price changes—and suddenly the actual thinking stops. You spend hours hunting down every single number across a financial model, a narrative memo, and a 40-slide deck just to update them by hand. By the time a deck reaches decision-makers, nobody can say what a number actually rests on, or if a link broke three formulas upstream. We weren't analyzing scenarios or making strategic calls—we were acting as human copy-paste pipelines.
We built DeepCell to fix this at the root. Instead of fragmenting work across separate tools, a single .deepcell file holds your data models, narrative writing, and presentation slides—all natively connected:
Traceable Reasoning: Every conclusion stays attached to its underlying logic. Click any number on a slide to trace it straight back to its source cell.
Automated Propagation: Update an assumption, and DeepCell recalculates the model, updates the narrative, refreshes the deck, and flags items requiring human review.
Object-Level Versioning: Track exactly how your analysis evolved over time without saving dozens of v3_FINAL_v2 files.
Open & Plain-Text: Under the hood, it’s a plain-text open standard—human-readable, git-friendly, and free from platform lock-in.
DeepCell is built specifically for teams whose work turns raw numbers into critical decisions:
Finance & Investing: Valuation models and IC memos/decks.
FP&A & Corporate Ops: Budgets and rolling forecasts.
Strategy & Consulting: Client analyses subject to constant revisions.
Supply Chain & Product: Lead-time sensitivity modeling, launch cases, and pricing strategies.
Start Fast, Export Anywhere
Import or Create: Start fresh, import existing Excel workbooks, or let AI agents generate the entire model, memo, and deck into a single .deepcell file.
Frictionless Sharing: Share .deepcell directly, or export clean .xlsx, .docx, PDF, and .pptx files for stakeholders who prefer traditional Office formats.
Built for the AI Stack: DeepCell is designed ground-up for Claude, Codex, and agentic workflows via our CLI and MCP server. An agent completes an analysis, a human checks the logic, and another agent picks up the context seamlessly. Software teams can finally run git, code reviews, and pull requests on financial models.
During our MBA, my co-founders and I decided to solve this pain point. Coming from Big 4 and Google backgrounds, we’ve lived this mess from both financial and systems perspectives. As AI takes over more heavy lifting in business analysis, trust depends on transparency—reasoning must travel alongside the output.
.deepcell is our bet on that future: an open format where logic is transparent, busywork is eliminated, and teams can focus on the decisions that actually matter.
