convt - Convert any file with a right-click, without uploading it

by•
Most file converters make you upload your files to a website. convt runs on your own computer instead. Right-click a photo, video, audio file or document, pick a format, and the new file appears next to the original. It handles 40 formats, from HEIC and MOV to PDF and DOCX, works offline and converts whole folders at once. Want more control? Set quality and size in the app, or script it with the convt command line tool. Open source, with a 7-day free trial.

Hey Product Hunt! I'm Leo, I'm 15, and convt is my first app for normal people, not just developers 👋 I built it because I was sick of converting files on random vibe-coded websites. Every time I needed a WEBP turned into a PNG, I'd end up uploading my files to some site I knew nothing about and hoping my data was safe. I wanted converting to stay on my own macbook. So with convt, you right-click a file in Finder, pick a format, and the converted file shows up right next to the original. Everything runs on your own Mac, so nothing gets uploaded, and it works offline. What it does: - Offers 40 formats across images, video, audio and documents (HEIC → JPEG, MOV → MP4, WAV → MP3, and lots more) - You can convert a whole folder at once - If you click "More options…" it opens the app when you want to pick quality, size or where the file goes - It also offers a `convt` command line tool if you want to script it It's open source, and the conversion engine is written in Rust. For the Product Hunt community: the code "PRODUCTHUNT" takes 30% off the Desktop license, or 30% off your first 3 months of Pro, you can use it until October 31. I'll be here all day answering questions. My question to you is, what file conversion type still sends you to a random converter website? I'd love to know what to make better next.

This looks really interesting, is this macOS only?

 Thank you!

Those free online converting services always feel a little sketchy to me. This looks like a great alternative! Congrats on the launch, Leo!
