⚠️ Your nearest cloud region might not be your fastest one!

Hey makers πŸ‘‹

I assumed the cloud region closest to me would always be the fastest. Then I measured it.

From Ho Chi Minh City, AWS's Singapore region answers in about 45 ms, while its Bangkok region, closer on the map, takes about 56 ms. AWS Malaysia, roughly as far away as Singapore, takes over 100 ms.

πŸ‘‰ Distance is only part of the story: routing and peering decide the rest, and you only find out by measuring!

So I built , a latency test for cloud regions that runs in your browser:
⚑ 205 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Oracle, Alibaba, DigitalOcean, Linode and Vultr
🎯 One click tests the regions nearest to you, and ranks them by real latency
πŸ†“ Free, no sign-up, nothing to install

πŸ‘‰ Try it:

I'd love it if you ran a test and dropped your result below: where are you, and was your nearest region actually your fastest? I'm curious how different it looks around the world.

πŸš€ Cloud Ping launched on Product Hunt today, you can follow and rate it here:

πŸ’‘ is part of the project, which helps devs track updates across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
