Hi Product Hunt!
Long time lurker, first time launcher 🚀
My brother and I are the type who are always hacking on side projects. We've worked on dozens, and over time we discovered two truths:
1. We always dread adding authentication and user management. It feels like a distraction from our real goal.
2. With every new project, our usual solution looks less and less professional compared to the industry standard.
The advancements in user management are great for account security and accessibility: single sign in, 2 factor authentication, device management, etc, etc. **But all these features take time**, and for our side projects, that extra time is impossible to justify.
We built Clerk to solve this problem. Because as much as we hate building user management, we hate having amateur-looking user management even more 😁
We approached Clerk's development with three guiding principles:
1. 🔒 Every project - big or small - should have as much security and professionalism as Google when it comes to authentication and user management.
2. 📈 Every project - big or small - should have confidence that its Sign Up and Sign In forms are optimized for conversion.
3. 🛴 Clerk must be an order-of-magnitude easier to setup and manage than every alternative, paid or open source.
Today - although we're still in the early days - we think Clerk delivers on those principles. We've placed a lot of emphasis on streamlining the experience for React and Next.js developers, including an integration with Vercel for faster deploys.
Please give Clerk a try and let us know what you think. As a thank you to the Product Hunt community, we're offering 6 months of Clerk for free to users who sign up today.
We'll be online all day to answer questions, and in our community Slack and live chat to help with tech support. We look forward to meeting you!
Today, I'm thrilled to hunt Clerk. Clerk is the easiest way to add auth & user management to your React apps.
As a maker, I've wasted countless hours on building secure & robus auth systems. Having an out-of-the-box system to handle your authentication process, allow you to focus on you core product.
@colin_sidoti2 and his great team will be here answering your questions all today long 👇
@guilherm_y Hi Guilherm! Thanks for your question. I'd say we differ in two key places, but would encourage you to try both products:
1. We do "user management" in addition to authentication. Our component allows your users to see and manage which devices are logged in, configure their 2fa settings, upload profile pictures, change their name, etc. We offer a lot more of user management out-of-the-box than other authentication vendors.
2. Developer experience. We've come up with really easy and components you can drop into your React codebase, while the corresponding Auth0 solution requires a bit more configuration. A good way of seeing this is to compare our quick starts:

@guilherm_y As someone who's gone through the onboarding experience of both Auth0 and Clerk, the user experience from Clerk is light years ahead of Auth0
@guilherm_y@dvargas92495 love to hear it.
Thanks for trying us out and your support! The pain of the initial Auth0 integration It's pretty much why we started Clerk :)

@colin_sidoti2 Thanks for the reply. It does seems to be more easily integrated, and user management is a huge advantage. I will definitely try it out. Keep up the good work!
Hello Product Hunt!
I'm the Developer Advocate at Clerk.dev and the one that made the demo video, I hope you enjoyed it!
We're so excited to finally be launching here, we'll be here all day answering any questions you might have!
I love that you focused in on React/Next.js. Really smart move. Most auth platforms are trying to capture the entire market up front and only eventually back into native React components. The fact that you launched with focus on React is super cool!
@jehunter5811 We wanted to create the best experience possible for React and Next.js developers.
That's why we worked hard with Vercel to create the one-click deployment and we now also have an official template for Next.js. You can try it out with the command `npx create-next-app -e with-clerk my-app`.
Offering support to other frameworks like Vue, Nuxt.js, or Angular is in our roadmap!

I have been using Clerk for the past few months and I've absolutely loved it so far. Getting started was super simple, their development instance helps give me confidence before deploying changes to production, and the team is quick to respond in their slack when support features/issues arise.
Can't recommend this product enough for developers looking to add user authentication to their React apps. It will be part of my stack for all future projects going forward
